In my twenties, I lived in New York, Tokyo, Montreal, Toronto and Halifax. I was gone from the UK for about 7 years in total. During that time I was an intern at a couple of magazines, an ESL teacher, a restaurant hostess, a terrible waitress, a retail worker, a shockingly bad travel agent and a frustrated writer.
When I think back to my twenties, what I remember is this pressure to have it all figured out. I was constantly frustrated that I couldn’t seem to make any of the directions I was going in work, that everything seemed to have a question mark over it.
