If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have noticed that I post a short time lapse video of me using an ab wheel every morning. I made a commitment back in January to do it every day for a year, with the goal of being able to roll out from standing by the end of it. I didn’t really do it with any big fanfare, the videos were just a way for me to hold myself accountable. True to my word, I have done it every day since.
But what started this insanity?
I had a hand surgery back in October
2021 and wasn’t allowed to lift weights. While being benched from the weight section, I wanted to do something to keep my body in good condition so that when my grand return to the squat rack could finally happen, it wouldn’t be disastrous. I settled on the ab wheel as I figured it’d help with my grip strength as I rehabbed my post-surgery hand. The only problem? I sucked at using an ab wheel. I had one collecting dust in my closet for years. Every now and then I’ll pull it out, do a couple of reps and remember why I hated it.
