Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week paying homage to Jennifer Coolidge. I am late to the White Lotus party (if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend). Coolidge is pretty exceptional in anything she’s in, but in this, she’s serving kooky, rich, older lady realness effortlessly. The great rack, the pouty lips, the over-dressed for every occasion wardrobe - I am very much Here. For. It.
Aspirational. Roll on the kooky years.
Things That Caught My Eye This Week
Something that’s been coming up for me a lot recently is how to show up as a leader in a way that supports, inspires and instils confidence in people. It can be a really tricky thing to get right, especially as a woman and I have for sure made a lot of missteps with it throughout my career. The deeper I get into my own work as a leader, I’m starting to pay more attention to the language I use, so this article about five phrases that make people discount what you’re saying, was really insightful and definitely gave me a lot to think about.
Food for Thought
Do you want to solve your problem or do you just want to talk about it? Do you actually want for this problem to cease being an issue in your life or are you addicted to the drama and misery that comes with it? Sometimes we get attached to a problem and constantly complaining about it gives us purpose or helps us bond with others. But why not work towards solving the issue and rather that perpetuating misery, experience life without that problem and welcome that joy into your life.
You should subscribe to the paid version of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s paid version of The Murmuration I’m talking about this weird sadness that creeps in as you watch your parents age - being in this weird limbo of loving spending time with them and trying to reconcile that at some point down the road, they just won’t be here. There’s a guilt that comes with even thinking about that, but at this age, the reality is that you have to think about it and prepare for it - it’s a weird kind of pre-mourning that no one really prepares you for. So, how are we meant to deal with it?
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to remind you that we are entering hibernation season and you should get your good blankets ready. You should take your snuggly, warm, relaxation time seriously - prioritise it, relish it, bask in it. Biggie sure as hell does.
