Happy Thursday, ya beauties,
Kicking it off this week with Julia Louis-Dreyfus. As a die hard Seinfeld fan, I have adored her for a long time. Then her work on VEEP? *chef’s kiss* She’s just a delight of a human. She’s now 62 and has just launched a podcast called Wiser Than Me, in which she talks to women over 70.
“I want to hear from these older women. I want to talk to them. I want to know how they navigate aging and their tips for a life well lived. How they did it, how they do it and everything in between.” - Louis-Dreyfus
I am so very here for this content. Yesterday, I listened to the first episode with Jane Fonda and IT IS INCREDIBLE. Honestly, rush and listen to this podcast. It’s candid and refreshing and honest and in a world that wants to erase older women, Dreyfus is shining a light on them and letting them know their worth. I love love love it.
Things that caught my eye this week
Body image issues and eating disorders are on the rise in young boys apparently. This article was a super interesting read. It’s not like I’m ignorant to the fact that some men may feel a certain pressure for their body to look a certain way, I’ve just never felt that the pressure they feel is anywhere close to what women have to navigate on this issue. However, given some of the examples in this article and how young the boys are when they start expressing dissatisfaction with their body image, it’s something I’ll definitely be taking more seriously.
Food for thought
You will figure it out. You always have. In the moments you feel hopeless, trapped or so deep in the shit you’ll never find a way out, trust that you always have. If you feel you don’t have what it takes , maybe this moment is here to teach you, to help you learn the skills, develop that part of your character that will see you through. So, stay the course, don’t panic. You’ll figure it out. You always have.
You should subscribe to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s edition of The Murmuration, I’m talking about the importance of having a good workout routine as we age. Jane Fonda touches on this in the podcast I mentioned up top, about how she feels in her 85 year old body and how she’s grateful she prioritised fitness when she was younger, but she still definitely feels the effects of ageing in her body through every day activities. As the generation who has been taught to fully embrace fitness from our youth, we are potentially looking at a very different feeling ‘old age’ - but we do have to prepare for it. Join me on Monday and let’s discuss!
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie says it’s OK to pout for a minute when you feel wronged or hard done by or hell, maybe you’re just tired. But eventually you’ve gotta tuck that lip back in and go out there and face the world again. Indulge the pout, but know it has it’s place. He’s a wise one, that Biggie.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
