Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
I’ve been AWOL for a few weeks, I know. But I’m back, baby!
I’m not much of a royalist, but I will, however, celebrate this Queen. Ms Williams, Empress of the tennis court, powerhouse of accomplishment, winner of all the things, has retired. What a joy it has been to watch a woman so unapologetic about her greatness, who refused to shrink no matter how much the sporting establishment tried to make her.
She is the greatest athlete of our time. PerioT. There is no debate on that (pretty much only men try to debate it anyway).
Anyway, I hope she’s somewhere having a nice bubble bath or something right now because whew, if anyone deserves to put their feet up for a while…
Things that caught my eye this week
I find myself reading a fair amount about abuse and destructive, controlling, manipulative behaviour in relationships these days because, well, having lived through it, I’m looking for a deeper understanding of it all myself, but also for resources to direct people to so they can spot the signs.
So anyway, if you haven’t heard about a delightful manipulation technique called ‘Breadcrumbing’, get to know.
Food for thought
It’s all worth it. It all adds up. All the pieces matter. All the effort you’re putting in behind the scenes that you think is going unnoticed. All the failed attempts and ‘back to square one’s. Every second of it gets you closer to what you’re trying to achieve. None of it is wasted time. Even if it doesn’t get you where you wanted, it reroutes you to something that makes more sense.
Stay the course.
You should subscribe to the paid version of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s paid version of the letter, I’ll be talking about things that aren’t helpful to say to someone going through a shitty time or mental health crisis. It’s a realisation I came to myself recently, being on the receiving end of it (very well intentioned as it was) and knowing I’ve said and done the exact same thing when I’ve noticed someone else in crisis. Anyhoo, I’ve made a concerted effort to change my behaviour and actions around this kind of thing and maybe you’ll find it helpful.
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)Update
This week, Biggie would like to encourage you to believe in yourself more. While it may well look like a stick is too big for you, Biggie says ‘behold! Look at me quite literally biting off more than I can chew!’ There’s a lesson here for all of us. Go for the bigger stick babes.
