Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow, I’m kicking it off this week with a quote from Gloria Steinem’s 1971 Address to the Women of America:
"This is no simple reform. It really is a revolution. Sex and race, because they are easy, visible differences, have been the primary ways of organizing human beings into superior and inferior groups, and into the cheap labour on which this system still depends. We are talking about a society in which there will be no roles other than those chosen, or those earned. We are really talking about humanism."
2024 and the fight continues.
Things that caught my eye this week
As someone who is all about doing what I can to stay in the best physical and mental shape I can as I get older, I really liked these tips from GQ on the 9 things that the longest living people in the world do. It all seems like pretty common sense really, but also, easily forgettable when you’re in the day to day grind of life. This is worth a quick read to just remind yourself of some easy steps you can start incorporating into your life now, so that you can remain a baddie as you continue to age.
Food for thought
It’s only scary ‘cause you haven’t done it yet. Taking those first steps are full of doubt and questions and fear. But you take that first step and prove to yourself you can do just that little bit and confidence, courage and belief start to rally like The Avengers. Every time you take another step, you learn more, you get braver.
So you don’t need to worry about feeling scared right now. Taking action has a wonderful way of drop kicking fear in the face.
You should upgrade to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
In Monday’s edition of the letter, I’m going to be talking about how ageism can rear its ugly head in the most surprising of moments, how we’re often unaware of how hardwired we are for it and what we should be doing to combat it.
Here’s to being middle-aged badasses who lead the revolution ✊🏻
