Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Tracee Ellis Ross. I mean, her just being a stone cold baddie is enough of a reason, to be honest. But I’ll back that up with this recent interview I heard with her on Fresh Air podcast.
Just a standing ovation for her being an excellent representation of women over 50 who are unmarried, don’t have kids and are living a frikkin’ fabulous life. I just love her. If you haven’t seen the speech she gave a few years ago at a Glamour magazine event, I highly recommend watching it here.
Things that caught my eye this week
I’m gonna be an annoying Auntie and say this is your reminder to get up, get away from your desk and move your body! We all know we should be doing it and we all hear how bad prolonged periods of sitting are for us and yet ‘I’ve got back-to-back Zoom meetings all day’ is a sentence I hear more and more these days. The young ‘uns seem to be much better at advocating for themselves in the workplace. Let’s take a leaf out of their book - get some boundaries in place, insist on prioritising your mental and physical wellness at work. Now, get up and go have a little stroll or something.
Food for thought
It’s OK to mourn parts of yourself that you have to let go. As we step into new eras of our lives, old belief systems, habits and crutches have to be shed in order to make room for the newness. And sometimes that sucks. It’s hard. It creates a friction - wanting to embrace your next chapter while trying not to lose who you know yourself to be.
But you’ll likely enjoy this new evolution of yourself more. High five to your past self for getting you this far, but maybe she can’t come along for this next part of the ride. Make peace with that and allow yourself to grow.
You should upgrade to the paid version of The Murmuration because….
On Monday’s edition of the letter, we’re gonna talk about what to do if you feel like your plans, goals and habits you want to put in place this year are unraveling already. Let’s be honest - that New Year energy can wear off real fast. So, how do you get yourself back on track, rustle up some enthusiasm and avoid the temptation to throw the whole year in the bin and go back to bed? Upgrade to paid and join me on Monday to find out!
Your weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to encourage you to find that good light and know your angles. You deserve to be gazed upon lovingly. Give ‘em that deep stare, maybe stick a leg out at a weird angle, because why not? You’re a quirky little joy bringer who should be celebrated.
STUDIO BANGS is waiting for you
Looking for an easy, convenient way to work out whenever you want? I launched my online fitness platform last month and there is much goodness happening over there. Plenty o’ spin classes and more Pilates and mobility classes on the way.
Recent theme rides I’ve done include;
90s Dance Classics
Pearl Jam vs Nirvana
New Jack Swing
80s Pop
70s Rock
There’s also a selection of 5 minute weight tracks - utilising light weights and high reps to give you a glorious arm pump, plus a super sweet selection of Soulful Sunday rides - where you just want to gently move your body to some delightful r&b music.
We’re building a great community over there. Come sweat with us!
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
