Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Aki and Koichi - an older couple who share their style on Instagram. They’ve been married 38 years and are fly as hell. I love any time the older generation buck traditional stereotypes and live out loud. I also just love old couples - gah! Adorable. I’m low key trying to persuade my particularly fashionable parents to post their outfits and become Insta famous but so far, no dice. Sigh.
Things that caught my eye this week
This piece on parents who regret having children is fascinating. It’s such a taboo topic and yet I think the parents who admit it give extremely relatable reasoning. I feel if I had children, I would feel much the same (which is why I opted not to). It’s easy to say ‘well don’t have kids then’, but this breaks down why that isn’t always an easy option. Wherever you stand on this, it’s a really thought provoking read.
Can you help me?
I’m currently part of a business pre-accelerator, learning all sorts of wonderful things about building my business, STUDIO BANGS. As part of this, I’m conducting a focus group to learn more about the kinds of women who would use my service and how I can make sure I’m meeting their needs.
If you’re a woman who is 35+, works out and wouldn’t mind talking with me about the fitness industry for 30 minutes - I need you! I’d love to have a good little crowd to engage in this. It’ll be next Wednesday May 15th at 7:30pm UK time (2:30pm EST).
In return, you’ll get two months of free access to STUDIO BANGS.
If you’re interested and available at that time, please email me at info@studiobangs.com.
THANK YOU!
Food for thought
Even when you want change so badly, even when you know where you’re at right now is not where you want to be, that it’s breaking you down and destroying your spirit - the truth is, you’ve become so comfortable with it, it’s hard to let it go. The familiarity of a bad situation can keep you in its web because at least you know what to expect there. Letting it go in favour of the unexpected, going all in on trust, having to put in the work to figure out the change and newness that can come your way feels harder than staying comfortable in your pain.
But you are worthy of lightness and ease, excitement and flow, momentum and growth. Let go, even just a little bit, and allow yourself to take a little step towards something better.
You should upgrade to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s letter, I’m talking about my attempts to claim my attention back from my screens. Recently, I’ve become hyper aware of just how often I reach for my phone for no good reason - how I’m always just looking to fill any given moment with a distraction. And it’s really bothering me. We used to be able to be bored. We used to be able to find stuff to do. I understand that this is a symptom of societal changes and the impacts of technology and none of us are immune, but I’m getting genuinely worried about what it’s doing to my brain.
And so, I’m looking to figure out how to create distance between me and my screens. Join me on Monday as I detail the struggle. And if you’ve managed to do it successfully, please read it and give me your advice!
Your weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to remind you to respond, not react. While life will often serve us situations that deserve a heavy side eye, Biggie says it’s always helpful to step back, breathe, take a beat and respond when you’re not all caught up in the emotions of the moment, rather than react to the BS directly in front of you.
Hard to do, but Biggie assures me, it feels way better.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
