Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with a good read. Man, I love a book that grips you and keeps you in a choke hold ‘til the end. Enter: None of the is True by Lisa Jewell. HOLY MOLY! I think this may be the first book of Jewell’s that I’ve read and if this is the standard, I have been utterly remiss in not having her on my reading list on the regular. None of this is True is so, so good. If you’re looking for a good summer read, I cannot recommend this one highly enough. The tension builds and bubbles to the perfect point and when it takes off….BOY DOES IT EVER TAKE OFF! 10/10. Read it.
Things that caught my eye this week
As someone in their forties, who has opted to be childfree, this article on being ‘40 and childless’ is an interesting read. It delves into how our bodies are political and how conservatives ultimately try to control the when and how of a woman getting pregnant, essentially to keep her in a certain social position. I have friends who are currently undergoing IVF or exploring surrogacy, in their late thirties or early 40s, who would all make excellent parents. Having men dictate what is the right or wrong way to create a family or think of women as lesser than if they opt not to….ugh, I could talk about this for hours but needless to say, it’s rage-inducing.
Food for Thought
I know you’re tired. I know what you’re striving for seems a million miles away. I know you feel like it’s never gonna happen, it’s not for you, the dream is foolish. But amid all your doubts, that buzz is still there, that light hasn’t gone out yet - you have more to give. Even on the days it doesn’t feel like it, you’re making more progress than you think. Please keep going. You’re so close. And we’re all waiting to see you finally get your moment.
You should upgrade to the paid version of The Murmuration because…
In Monday’s letter I’ll be talking about the book The Chain by Chimene Suleyman, which I read last week and have honestly not stopped thinking about since. It is such an important piece of work and there is so much to discuss. A book has not shaken me to my core the way this one has, possibly in my whole life. WHEW! Join me on Monday and let’s dive in.
Your weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to remind you to fight for the things you believe in with the adorable ferocity with which he fights for this random piece of fabric he’s obsessed with.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
