Happy Thursday, ya beauties.
Kicking off this weekend with a tip of the hat to radio host turned daytime talk show queen, Wendy Williams. Over the festive season, while having a moment where I was looking for any flickering image to watch while I did some chores, I came across a documentary on Ms Williams called ‘What a Mess!’ I knew little about her outside of her work and what I did know, frankly I didn’t care much for. I’m not into gossipy radio shock jock vibes and gave up my daytime talk show interest after the Ricki Lake era, but man, was I taken aback by this documentary. Wendy Williams is a goddamn pioneer. She has endured things in her personal life that brought me to tears watching this. She has fought and persevered and overcome. Consider me a new fan!
Things that caught my eye this week
If you’re in search of some inspiration and someone to give a standing ovation to this week, I present to you, Irene Cybulsky. She was the only woman to head up a cardiac surgery division in Canada. As a shock to absolutely no one, leading a team of mainly men, she received much gender-based discrimination and harassment over the years, to the point where she was removed from her position. But did Irene Cybulsky take that lying down? Did she fuck. She casually went and got a law degree, filed a case with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and represented herself in the case against her old workplace. WE. LOVE. TO. SEE. IT.
Make this into a movie immediately. Give me Sandra Bullock as the lead, or Dianne Wiest, or Robin Wright or Tilda Swinton, or any other actress over 50 who can embody that badass energy. And put Stanley Tucci in it, for no other reason than, Stanley Tucci. Film it, release it, take my money.
Food for Thought
Today, why don’t you try moving through the world like the bad bitch you are. Dripping in earth angel energy. Leaving a trail of vibes behind you everywhere you go, so strong that any other woman who encounters it tries it on for size and gets to find her magic as a result. What if you stood fully in your power and didn’t shrink, didn’t apologise for it. How about you say what you mean, with your whole chest, minus whatever disclaimers you usually add to take the edge off it and make people feel more comfortable. Why don’t you try not fearing being too much. How about you just be gloriously ‘too much’ because in reality your ‘too much’ is actually just right and those who think otherwise don’t really deserve to be in your orbit.
Maybe just try all that on for size today, see how it feels. Then don’t look back.
