Happy Thursday, ya beauties,
Kicking it off this week by sending love to the millions of victims of abuse. I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t watch a second of that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial, but when the verdict came in, I felt sick to my stomach. What was more sickening though were people cheering for Johnny Depp, as though he were some kind of hero - particularly disheartening to see women on his side and calling Heard a liar. This point has been made abundantly clear but many don’t seem to want to pay attention to it: there is absolutely no question that Johnny Depp is an abusive asshole. It’s clear they had a highly dysfunctional relationship. This trial just means Heard is never allowed to say she was a victim of abuse (even though, in the article at the root of this lawsuit where she refers to herself as such, she never once mentions Depp’s name). This is wildly problematic.
If we thought it was hard for abuse victims to come forward before this, it’ll be near impossible now. It’s sickening and sad and rage inducing.
Things that caught my eye this week
I love a bit o’ historical woman badassery, so this piece on the Mongol women who were running shit during Genghis Khan’s rule and beyond is a pretty cool read.
Food For Thought
You’re doing great, sweetie. Stop beating yourself up, stop thinking you should be doing more, stop comparing yourself to someone you feel is nailing life more than you. You know nothing of their journey. Focus on you, your growth, your path and your purpose. Do what you can, with what you have, today. And if you fall short of what you wanted for yourself today, oh well, shit happens. We have tomorrow. And maybe tomorrow requires you to chill the fuck out, rest and not feel guilty about it. Seriously, you really are doing great, sweetie. I’m proud of you.

We’ll also talk about why it’s important for partnered women to look out for their single friends and maintain community. Subscribe and come share your thoughts!
