Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Dame Judi Dench, for truly no other reason than she’s Dame Judi Dench. Supreme badassery, the likes of which, we mere mortals can only dream of.
She was on my mind this week because every now and then this clip of her reciting Shakespeare on the Graham Norton Show comes across my timelines and I never tire of watching it.
I love how you could hear a pin drop in the silent audience, how the men on the couch are absolutely captivated by her, how she can just casually remember this beautiful sonnet and recite it with such emotion at a moment’s notice. Everything about it is stunning.
Long live Dame Dench!
Things that caught my eye this week
I really liked this piece about the importance of a ‘third space’. As I’m coming up on 11 months in my new home in Montreal, finding ways to build community and connection is on my mind frequently. It’s interesting to read in this piece how third spaces have been on the decline and how the design of a lot of cities now don’t really allow for third spaces in the traditional sense. Anyway, it really got me thinking about the kinds of connections I want to form and how I can go about doing that.
Food for thought
You can micro dose change. Just dip a toe in there with the smallest of adjustments, wait for the water to warm up, see how it feels. Stop looking at the end goal and thinking you need to make all of that happen immediately. It comes about in stages. You need to drip feed it to yourself. With each little baby step of achievement, you unlock another level of courage that powers you up to tackle the next bit.
You can’t skip steps. All the stages matter.
Slow and steady wins the race, babe.
You should upgrade to the paid version of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s edition of The Murmuration I’m talking about how to repair a relationship with a family member. I have a big one I’m in the process of healing - it’s taken me a while to get here and I’m learning a lot on the way.
Upgrade and tune in if you have some thoughts on this issue.
Your weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie asked me to post this picture, draw your attention to his back leg and have me scream the reminder ‘DON’T FORGET TO STRETCH, QUEEN!’ What can I say? He’s passionate about mobility. But you've gotta admit, the pup’s got a point.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
