Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with the news that Venus Williams has joined the private equity firm, Topspin, as an operating partner. What an incredible bossy boss babe move to make. Oh, you think you can’t take on a side hustle at 42?
I love this on so many levels; diversifying your interests, on the job learning, not letting one thing define you, staying curious about a bunch of stuff.
Hats off to Ms Williams - this is a super inspiring move.
Things that caught my eye this week
I have a pretty limited knowledge of makeup and skincare things, but am always fascinated by the new inventions that are pitched to women to keep ensure we never ever look as though with each passing year, a number gets added to our age, because…eww…amiright?! So this weird facial massage-y machine thing will apparently help you continue to fight the war on wrinkles, if you have both disposable time and disposable income to spare.
Celebrities currently running to their surgeons to have filler removed from their faces. An interesting theory I came across while reading about all this is that because become so accessible, it’s now much less desirable for the glitterati. If the chick who works at Starbucks can have the same smoothed out, lifted face as you, what separates you from the plebs? I had never really thought of faces full of filler and botox as a status symbol but it’s an interesting take.
Food for thought
Not everyone is meant to come on your journey with you. Certain friendships, bonds and the loyalty we feel to them can keep us stuck in place. Realising we need to loosen those ties can be really fucking heartbreaking. Maybe it’s not that you need to cut the person out of your life altogether. Maybe the style of friendship just changes a little, contact is a little less frequent, but the love is still there. It doesn’t mean either party did anything wrong - some things just last for a certain season of our life. We grow as people and it makes sense our friendships and connections do too. Give yourself the grace to let that happen.
You should subscribe to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s paid edition of the letter, I’m talking about sharing your kids online and how now’s the time to maybe seriously reconsider your decision to do that. It’s a triggering topic for parents, I know, in the age of the overshare, but as the first generation of kids who were raised online are starting to come of age and we’re hearing directly from them how it affected them, it’s a topic that should definitely be explored. Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
Today, Biggie would like to remind you to take a little time to chit chat, shoot the breeze, catch up with a loved one, be an attentive listener, show interest in someone’s hilarious tale of their trip to the hardware store - it may well enrich your day.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
It's funny, reading the CUT piece and looking at the before and afters, I was thinking, these ladies are being lied to. I couldn't see any difference. But I know photos and IRL doesn't always translate. Why do we need all these 10 step skin care routines.
