Happy Thursday all!
Kicking it off this week with this badass, Paxton Smith. She ditched the approved version of her high school graduation speech and opted to speak out against an anti-abortion bill that was recently passed in her state (Texas), making abortions illegal after 6 weeks, regardless of if the pregnancy is a result of rape or incest.
I cried watching this. These kinds of assaults on women’s rights make my blood boil. They’re scary enough for us as grown women, but to be an 18 year old trying to process what a law like that potentially means for you…Jesus Christ, I can’t even put words to my rage.
Shout out to Paxton. It took serious ovaries to do this.
Some bits n’ peices that caught my eye this week:
This piece written by a transwoman who is closeted and not coming out was a very enlightening read. I am a cis gendered, hetereosexual woman who is very much on the train of just letting people be and identify however the hell they want, everyone deserves freedom and happiness in their body, identity and choices and all that jazz. But with all that said, I can admit to finding the discourse around gender identity and gender politics to be confusing and overwhelming. In this current climate, it seems to even raise questions to help you get a grip on understanding, can put you in the firing line. Even to type that sentence was a bit nerve wrecking, to be honest. And so, I’m reading, listening, and doing all the learning I can because allyship is important and I want to make sure I’m getting it right. Anyhoo, read this piece because I guarantee it’ll make you confront some of your currently held beliefs.
This article on the history of gender neutral pronouns is an interesting read, especially if you have an interest in how language develops.
Can everyone stop saying Kate Winslet is brave for just existing in her body as a woman in her mid-40s? Ugh. We’re tired.
I didn’t know Marilyn Monroe was a big lover of literature and dabbled in poetry, so this was a bit of a treat to read.
“…harsh, punitive judgements, overanalysing your shortcomings, rumination over minor missteps, worry and assuming fault.” Oh hai, it me. This is a very important reminder to not be so hard on yourself.
On Monday’s paid edition of The Murmuration, I’m talking about how growing grass can help you process trauma. The paid version is $5 per month or $50 for the year - come join us!
My pup, Biggie Smalls, wanted to swing by and remind you to smile at strangers, spread good vibes and be nice to people.
See you next week!
