Happy Thursday, you beauties.
Here’s a few things that caught my eye this week (languishing, good conflict and the power of handwriting), along with a sneak peek of Monday’s edition. Enjoy!
Are you languishing? The further we get into pandemic life, the more psychologists put names to all these feels we’re feeling. I must say, it’s only recently I’ve realised that I have major pandemic anxiety, having to stop myself from going down the rabbit hole of that dreaded feeling that we’ll just never make it out of this. And I live in one of the safest places in the world (I should point out this article is from last November. We do currently have 67 active cases in the Province, the highest it’s been in a while, but still far fewer than many other places). This languising thing? Yeah, I definitely relate. How about you? How are you feeling (I mean, really feeling) about the state of play with the pandemic right now?
“…to help them get comfortable with the mindset that conflict is a creative force for change—a healthy, important part of life that is fundamentally mismanaged.” As someone who really struggles with conflict and actively tries to avoid it, I found this article really insightful. Lots to think about here in appreciating the views of other people that don’t align with ours.
As someone who loves to write by hand, I always love to read about the benefits of doing that. I do morning pages every day and the joy that finding the right type of notebook and a pen that compliments it, the way the pen glides on the pages, the way it makes me think - ahh, it’s just one of my favourite parts of the day. But there are tons of benefits to writing by hand too, so basically - do it!
This rather fabulous lady here is my mother, Carole. She’s seventy-three and has always been a style icon to me. She had her own clothing line and store back in the day and I’ve loved seeing her style evolve over the years.
“For a while, I became worried about being ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ but you shouldn’t have to opt for dull just because you’re getting older. As long as you’re comfortable and happy with the way you look and feel, go for it. No matter how outrageous!”
It was a real joy for me to interview her about her background in fashion, her clothing line and shop and how she feels about style as she gets older. The interview will be in Monday’s paid subscription version of this newsletter, so if you’re not subscribed yet, get on it!
The paid version of the newsletter gives you the Monday edition which is articles, think pieces and interviews - all about the juicy stuff we care about. It’s $5 per month of $50 for the year. You can subscribe by clicking here.
Until next week, smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
