Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with the one and only Kamala Harris. Look, American politics absolutely makes my head spin and I won’t pretend to understand it, but I will say I was getting more and more concerned the longer Joe Biden was staying in the race. The very thought of another Trump presidency, especially with all this Project 2025 stuff floating around, makes me absolutely shudder. So, for Biden to drop out and to name Kamala as the Democratic nominee, seems to have injected much needed life (and sense!) into this campaign. Part of me thinks it’s absolutely wild to have switched nominees at this point and part of me thinks it may well have been a very calculated power play.
The announcement of her being the nominee was made on Sunday afternoon and by Monday evening, her campaign had raised over $100 million in donations, which seems very promising indeed. It seems insane that the US hasn’t had a female president yet. Let’s hope they get it right this time.
GO KAMALA!
Things that caught my eye this week
This piece was an interesting read, by Casey Niccoli, the former girlfriend of Jane’s Addiction’s lead singer, Perry Farrell. She was a huge inspiration and creative force at the start of his career and talks of how, over time, her legacy within that story has been completely erased. I think so many women have experienced this (and perhaps men too) with creative partners; the way you pour into them, lift them up and inspire them and when the relationship crumbles, ego seems to be incapable of acknowledging the importance and relevance of that connection and the part it played in getting you where you are.
Food for thought
The key to your growth is in how you bounce back. The way in which you choose to dust yourself off after every blow. Throwing your hands up and complaining about how nothing ever works out for you is a guaranteed way to keep you stuck in place. The set back is calling you to something higher. It’s there to help you develop whatever skill is needed to take you to the next level. You quit now and you miss it. I know it’s hard. I know you’re tired. But the good stuff lies in the lessons.

On Monday’s letter I’ll be talking about being harassed online; when being nice turns ugly. I made a decision last weekend to block an Instagram follower who was making me uncomfortable and let’s just say, he apparently hasn’t taken it too well. From writing a scathing blog post about me to constantly harassing my boss with the aim to get me fired, this is a classic case of what happens when men feel entitled to our time, energy, attention and conversation and the fall out when you deny them that. It has been scary but I’ve had a huge wake up call and am learning some valuable lessons along the way. Subscribe to the paid version and join me on Monday as I share them.
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (p)Update
A moment of praise for my beautiful boy. Since moving to Montreal a year ago, Biggie has been attacked by other dogs FIVE times. The dog owners here are truly terrible. It’s heartbreaking ‘cause Biggie loves other dogs and is super playful, but I’m finding it increasingly difficult to find places where I feel he can play safely here. Biggie teaches me so much about resilience. The attacks haven’t deterred him, he’s not scared. He doesn’t avoid the parks where the incidents happened. He’s as loving and fun and playful as ever (while I watch from the sidelines being a super nervous helicopter parent). So, shout out to this lil fella, who always seems to see the bright side, who insists on being loving and silly and brave and adorable always. I love him so very much.
