Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week by saying DEMI MOORE WAS ROBBED! At The Oscars, I mean. Hopefully not in real life. As has been pointed out by many, 25-year-old Mikey Madison winning best actress for Anora, over 62 year old Demi Moore is kinda the whole plot of The Substance, so it’s just irony on irony. But I’ll take a moment here to praise Moore again for taking on that role, which tackles issues that feel so important to so many of us to talk about right now.
And while I’m here on my soapbox, I will once again rage against the machine that Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis were not nominated for their work in The Last Showgirl, where they were both phenomenal.
At some point, Hollywood has to get the message that older women exist and we like to see ourselves reflected in stories on the big screen. Sadly, this year, they didn’t want to acknowledge that.
Things that caught my eye this week
Well, yikes. If you’re online at all and you swirl around the self-help/motivation/coaching circles at all, it’s kinda hard to avoid Mel Robbins. I’ll admit, I’ve been a Robbins fan, I’ve enjoyed her work, I’ve often recommended it to others. Right now, I’m reading her latest book, The Let Them Theory and enjoying it, I must say. But I have been seeing more and more articles pop up about how she stole the ‘Let Them’ concept and hasn’t given credit to the originator of the idea at all. And…well, yeah, it’s all starting to feel a bit yucky. I’m still doing a lot of reading around how this all came to be, but it has definitely made me start to question my support for Mel Robbins going forward. It’s unsetting when people with huge platforms profit off ideas they stole. I don’t like that.
It’d be nice if Mel Robbins credited the creator of the theory, included her in some of the undoubtedly huge profits she’s made from this…but I won’t hold my breath.
Food for thought
Be mindful of spending your energy on people, places, things or situations that are undeserving. Your energy is an infinite source, but still - don’t waste it on things that don’t nurture or elevate you. Too often, you pour into things that don’t return your energy and you wonder why you’re depleted. Step back, take stock and recharge. Spending your energy in the right places lights everything up. Spend wisely.
You should upgrade to the paid version of The Murmuration because…
In Monday’s letter, I’ll be talking about an ecstatic dance event I attended and why I firmly believe in the healing power of dance. The healing space love to preach breathwork, meditation, yoga and expensive retreats all day, but on Monday, I make my case for the power of a good ol’ boogie in healing your heart and calming your spirit.
