Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
While I usually kick off this newsletter celebrating a female-led story, as a Brit/Canadian, living in Canada, I need to take a moment to acknowledge the election we had this week and the victory of the Liberal party. What sweet relief! I mean, it’s probably glaringly obvious that I’m super liberal and am delighted with this result, but it truly felt like a game-changing election. In the face of what’s going on with our neighbours south of the border, tensions have been high, the political rhetoric has been very polarising and it just felt like so much was hanging in the balance.
This was the first election I’ve had the chance to vote in since moving back to Canada and I’m so relieved that my vote counted towards stopping the sway towards the far right and Trumpism that seems to be sweeping the globe right now.
The election is, of course, just the first step and there is much work to be done, but I definitely breathed a sigh of relief knowing we have a sane leader in Mark Carney, who I really believe has the best interests of everyone at heart.
Things that caught my eye this week
Jeannie Rice is a 77 year old runner who, according to tests, is as fit as a 25 year old. Any story about staying fit as you age, I lap it up! What I like about Jeannie’s story is that she started running at 35 and just fell in love with it. She has completed 134 marathons. She’s routinely the fastest in her age group. Scientists are studying her to gain insights into staying active into old age. At the basis of it really seems to be consistency - just keep moving, people!
Food for thought
When something isn’t meant for you, the signs will sometimes come as soft whispers before they escalate to loud roars. When we finally slot all the pieces of the puzzle together and know to walk away, we’ll kick ourselves; ‘why didn’t I realise sooner? How did I not see it coming?’ But why does the narrative have to be that you were stupid and foolish rather than hopeful and optimistic? Sometimes you have to reach for the fire and get scolded a few times before the message can be fully received. And the message is usually that you were meant for something more, something different. Each scold you took along the way was designed for you never forget that.

On Monday’s letter I’m talking about how I’m finding myself in the midst of quite a slump; uninspired, a little lost, in a holding pattern waiting for my life to happen. Let’s not call it a mid-life crisis - I can’t even muster up the drama to think of it as a crisis and I don’t know that it’s age related necessarily - but I do know I need to dig myself out of it somehow.
Join me on Monday as I discuss how, as a usually very motivated and creative person, I’m trying to find my way back to myself.
