Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with a shout out to Candace Parker, who is set to become the first woman to be on the cover of the new NBA 2K video game. The game is coming out in September and is a special anniversary edition to honour 25 years of the WNBA.
Last week I saw the new Space Jam movie and was thrilled to see WNBA stars Diana Taurasi and Nneka Ogwumike playing parts in it. All these women are incredible athletes and it’s about time they got some shine.
Movies, video games….as the kids say, we love to see it!
Some things that caught my eye this week:
Jennifer Hudson is set to play Aretha Franklin in a biopic coming out next month and I am mightily excited for this release. I enjoyed reading this piece about how she prepped for the role. Also, if you haven’t seen the documentary about Aretha, Amazing Grace, stop what you’re doing and go watch it immediately. I saw it in the cinema when it came out in 2018 and it is nothing short of a spiritual experience. That woman’s voice was just…whew! Brace yourself - I full on wept during certain parts of that doc. It’s powerful.
On the power of representation and simply being seen, one stutterer talks about her experience finding vloggers who stutter and how that has empowered her.
For anyone looking for a bit of inspiration to start over, this woman started a new career in her 50s.
In Monday’s paid edition of The Murmuration, I’m talking about boundaries and saying no, something I know a whole heap o’ women seem to struggle with.
“Why do we feel so guilty about drawing lines for ourselves and enforcing them? We can’t be all things to all people all the time. For our own sanity, something has to give eventually.
Feeling overwhelmed, over-run, over-tired? I’d put money on you being a yes person. One of the most powerful things you can do is learn to say no and understand it’s acceptable for that to be a complete sentence.”

Biggie’s been working on his best smile and he hopes you like it.
Until next week, smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
