Thursday Murmurings
Greetings and Happy Thursday, you beauties!
Still processing that terrible news out of Texas? Same babes, same. This is probably one of the best little nuggets I saw pop up about it on Twitter. Sending loving energy to anyone who has been horribly triggered by the news.
Things that caught my eye this week:
“In effect, the Texas Legislature has deputized the State’s citizens as bounty hunters, offering them cash prizes for civilly prosecuting their neighbors’ medical procedures.” Judge Sonya Sotomayor’s dissent regarding the new Texas abortion law is most definitely worth a read as we all try to process our rage.
“You know, if I’m being honest, it feels like I’m juggling seven chainsaws, and oops, now they’re all on fire and I’ve been doing it for 18 months.” No one wants to hear about burned out mums anymore.
This piece, about people all over the US writing to the governor of Colorado after Elijah McClain’s murder at the hands of the police, really got me thinking. Thousands of people wrote letters, thousands of those went unopened. If we’re told to be proactive in bringing about change, what can we do when our activity is ignored?
In next Monday’s Murmuration
In Monday’s paid edition of The Murmuration, I’m reflecting on beauty and ageing.
“I’m good with ageing, but perhaps I’m just saying that because I don't look particularly old right now. But the way older women have traditionally been regarded - yeah, that’s perhaps the part I’m more concerned about. Just the gradual descent into invisibility, the notion that all your value is literally just wrinkling up and you can just go have a seat over there, ya old broad, you’re not needed here anymore.”
I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you feel about ageing too. Hit the subscribe button for access to Monday’s letter.
