Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Our Lord and Saviour, Celine Dion - yes, AGAIN. Because I WILL TALK ABOUT HER EVERY GODDAMN WEEK IF I HAVE TO BECAUSE SHE’S AN ANGEL WALKING AMONGST US AND WE DON’T DESERVE HER. AND HAVE YOU SEEN HER OLYMPIC OPENING CEREMONY PERFORMANCE? HAVE YOU MOPPED UP YOUR PUDDLE OF TEARS? THE STRENGTH, THE COURAGE, THE DETERMINATION, THE HOURS, DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS OF HARD WORK IT MUST HAVE TAKEN FOR HER TO GET HER VOICE BACK TO PERFORMANCE READY - IT BOGGLES THE MIND. SHE’S FUCKING REGAL. IT WAS A PERFORMANCE FOR THE AGES. IT WAS STIRRING, MOVING, I’M NOT EVEN FRENCH BUT GODDAMN IT FOR THOSE 3.5 MINUTES I WAS. WHOEVER FIGURES OUT HOW TO BOTTLE THE RIZZ OF CELINE DION WILL BE A GAZILLIONAIRE.

Things that caught my eye this week
Death is something we don’t talk about enough so I found this article about 11 Things to Say When Someone Dies Besides ‘I’m Sorry’ super helpful. I have most definitely been guilty of not being able to find the right words and falling back on old cliches, which, once you’re removed from the situation, don’t seem very helpful at all. One thing this article made me realise is that we really can’t shy away from these conversations.
Food for thought
Sit for a second. Get quiet. Closer your eyes. Take some deep breaths. And ponder, for a moment, everything that is going on inside your body at this exact moment. Picture your heart beating, your lungs pumping, your blood flowing around your body. Imagine this countless nuerons and muscles that need to leap into action for you to blink your eye, lift your finger, cross your legs. Every second of the day, our bodies are just working away, keeping us upright, keeping us breathing, keeping us alive. And while there may be a great many things to complain about in the world, take a moment today to marvel in just how miraculous your body is. What a wondrous thing of beauty, what a feat of science! How lucky we are to be walking around in them at all.

On Monday’s letter, I’m talking about how hard it can be to show up as. your authentic self in a filtered world.
It’s no secret I’m very pro-aging, I’m anti botox and fillers etc and I want my actions and behaviours around how I handle my own aging to be part of a catalyst for change, in the hopes that it won’t feel so stigmatised for the women coming up after us.
But as much as I sing that from the rooftops, I’m also doing it while unraveling my own programing, having to actively reject the messaging that is around me at all times and choose radical acceptance day in and day out. That means coming to terms with my aging face, that means questioning my aesthetics, the importance of them, how I am perceived. And well, let’s just say, it’s a lot.
Upgrade your subscription and join me on Monday as I walk through how I’m choosing to accept myself as I age.
