Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with The Housemaid. This one seems to be doing the rounds of the book clubs and I’ve seen so many people reading it, I figured I’d pick it up for myself.
I read a few pages of it last week and then thought I’d dive into it properly on Saturday and LEMME TELL YA….it’s a muthafrikkin’ page turner if ever there was one! I’d intended to just read 50 or so pages on the Saturday, but I finished the whole damn thing. Quite literally couldn’t put it down. My ideal Saturday afternoon is being curled up on the sofa with a book that’s really got its hooks in me, so this was dreamy.
Honestly, if you love a good thriller, this one is right up your street.
If you’ve already read it and also love thrillers of this nature, I’d love to hear your recommendations for my next read. Leave ‘em in the comments!
Things that caught my eye this week
Ozempic. Yeah. Sheesh. I’m pretty sick of seeing that word too. You can’t seem to blink these days without seeing an Ozempic hot take somewhere. I don’t have a stance on this drug really, though I feel sorry for diabetics who can’t get ahold of it due to people using it for cosmetic weight loss reasons. But it does feel conflicting that we demonize people for being overweight and now seem to demonize people for taking Ozempic too. The podcast Maintenance Phase did a great episode diving into this - I encourage you to listen.
I guess if anything, my concern with all prescription medications is the propensity of healthcare professionals to put people on a medication before ever thinking to address any underlying concerns. And as this piece in The Cut demonstrates, overweight people are going to doctors now and their concerns barely being listened to before Ozempic is prescribed. It’s a complex issue and I guess I just fall on the side of not taking a medication unnecessarily and favouring a holistic approach to wellness through lifestyle choices. Though pharmaceutical companies will not rest before they have us all dependent on something, I’m sure. *dismounts soapbox*

Food for thought
Sometimes your desire doesn’t make sense - be it career ambition, personal goals or a wellness objective. Don’t get overly invested in trying to understand it right off the bat and just indulge in following the hunch. The why and the how present themselves when the time is right. But if your body is telling you, if you keep feeling drawn to a place, a practice, a way of being - that in itself is telling you something. Surrender and indulge - it’ll all make sense in the end.
You should upgrade to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s edition of the letter, I’ll be talking about making space and letting go. I’ve recently had the experience of releasing myself from a harmful narrative I’d had on repeat in my life for a while and the sheer power of breaking up with that thought pattern has been profound. But it sure hasn’t been easy. On Monday, I’ll be talking about how to release the narratives that don’t serve you, step into a more positive mental space and why this is essential for your overall wellbeing.
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would once again like to remind you that the head at a 45 degree angle with a slight chin raise, when the lighting hits just right, really does give you a pretty perfect portrait shot. He says he’s happy to help you out with your poses anytime.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
