Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with New York designer, Bathsheva, who made a point of only using models 40+ in her Fall 2024 fashion show a few weeks ago. She didn’t go through agencies, favouring recruiting women she just liked the look of while out and about, and even casting a few friends. It shouldn’t be quite so revolutionary at this point to simply make women over 40 feel seen and included but alas, we all know it is.
Kudos to Batsheva and MORE OF THIS PLEASE!
Things that caught my eye this week
The debate about whether or not you should put your kids online is one that rages (while I’m not a parent, I’ve been vocal in my newsletter about thinking it’s very dodgy to be putting pics of your kids online) and it’s one that will forever get parents up in arms.
But this article about kids who are used in their family’s blogs is quite the eye opener. I personally always find it icky when parents use their kids in this way for a pay cheque. It’s interesting to hear that historically, there’s been very little protection for the kids in these situations and often they come of age to find that none of the money earned from lucrative brand deals their parents struck during their childhood has actually been put aside for them. In the US, more States are enacting legislation to deal with this. I wonder if we’ll see more countries put laws in place around this too. An interesting debate, for sure.
Food for thought
The heavy feelings, the anxiety and fear around the idea of having to have a tough conversation, are always worse than the conversation itself. Stop putting it off, stop playing out ideal scenarios in your head, stop thinking the other person can magically read your mind or the situation will resolve itself. You have agency and can advocate for yourself. If the conversation is weighing on your heart, you owe it to yourself for it to pass your lips. The lightness that comes from honouring yourself cannot be overstated.
You should upgrade to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
In Monday’s letter I’m talking about my decision to break up with my partner last week and what it takes to walk away from a ‘great on paper’ relationship. It turns out that break ups can be healing, mature and healing moments - who knew?!
Upgrade to the paid edition to find out what I learned from what has turned out to be an awesome break up.
Your weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to say that he knows you’ve been thinking about your favourite snack. He has too. And he thinks you very much deserve it.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
