Happy Thursday, ya beauties.
Kicking it off this week with a moment of recognition and reverence for the powerhouse that is actress, Edie Falco. Her turn as Carmela Soprano was nothing short of magic (and she became my personal style icon during that time. The big hair? the jewellery? The acrylic nails? COME ON! A straight up goddess, I tell you.)
Anyhoo, this interview with her from The Guardian is a delight. I recently watched Impeachment: American Crime Story, in which Ms Falco plays Hilary Clinton and she’s incredible, as always.
She always comes across as so grounded, like she can’t quite believe her luck that she has this career. And of course, an extra shout out for her not trying to hide her ageing.
Things that caught my eye this week
If you haven’t watched the series, Euphoria, I highly recommend. The powerhouse that is Zendaya stars and produces and it is a shocking glimpse into what teenage life is like now (every episode I found myself giving thanks that we didn’t have social media during our teenage years). It explores themes of sex, addiction, trauma, abuse - it’s at times horrific, but always brilliant.
Barbie Ferreira is one of its stars and I really enjoyed this interview with her. She’s 24 and the thing that struck me was how self-assured she seems. It’s so encouraging to see this generation of women coming up behind us own who they are at every stage in their life and I dare say, we can take a lot of inspiration from them ourselves.
Food for Thought
Let me make an appeal to your inner hippy for a moment, if I may.
Start paying attention to the things, people, places and activities that drain your energy. Those things that make you go ‘uuggghhhh’. They make you feel that way because they are not attuned to your vibration. And if you want to be operating at your optimum in life, seek out the things that make you vibrate higher.
We aren’t living this life to tolerate bullshit, be made to feel uncomfortable, or do things that don’t sit right with our soul. Stepping into the next phase of your life may well mean that certain people, places or practices simply can’t be a part of it anymore. Distancing yourself from those things doesn’t have to be drama-filled. Detach with love, leave space for the possibility of those things being on your frequency at the next level, but if they aren’t right now and it’s holding you back? Let this be your sign that it’s time to gently cut them loose and allow yourself to soar.
You should subscribe to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
In Monday’s paid edition, I’m going to be giving you a pep talk - and I don’t know how much you know about me, but know this: I am a pretty excellent pep talk giver.
Is it going to be one of those ‘we only have X number of days left in 2021, how will you use them?’ type pep talks? Hell no. It will be a pep talk that celebrates and uplifts you and has you looking in the mirror and seeing the best version of yourself as we round this year out.
This time of year can be a slog. A slog where often a lot of extra responsibilities are placed on women, so if you need a pep talk that will remind you how insanely fucking fabulous you are, that will empower you to own that, relish it and splash around in a big bath full of greatness, I suggest you give yourself the gift of the paid version of this newsletter.
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to remind you that no one can make you feel badly about yourself unless you let them. He’d love for you to cultivate an inner narrative that supports you believing in the best of all that you are.
Until next week, smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
