Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Ali Wong. If you’re not watching the latest series she stars in, Beef, get on it. Between Always Be My Maybe (which she co-wrote) and Beef (which she’s an executive producer on), Wong is drop kicking the door down and creating roles where there previously haven’t been any for women of colour (and making BANK while she does it. We love to see it).
She turns 41 next week and it feels like just these past couple of years she’s really started to hit her stride and elevate. Inspiration for us all.
Things that caught by eye this week
This article on How Rural America steals Girls’ Futures is a heartbreaking read. But it’s excellent in its exploration of how it happens. I see a lot of parallels here between girls in Rural America and poor, working class girls in the UK. I’ve seen it happen and it’s so, so sad.
Food for Thought
Other people aren’t thinking about you. Not to the extent we ever think they are anyway. So, relieve the pressure valve that you can’t do whatever the hell you want with your life because ‘what will other people think?’ They won’t think. They ya go. Solved it for you. Maybe they’ll think your next move is wonderful, incredible, groundbreaking. Maybe they’ll think it’s a steaming pile of trash. In either case, unless it’s someone you know, like, trust and respect, why would you give it the time of day?
You should subscribe to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s paid edition of the letter, I’m talking about embracing change as we age, how as we get older, it feels harder to embrace the transient nature of life. I’m in the midst of a sea of change right now and am at the intersection of ‘excited’ and ‘crapping myself’. How do we move through big changes when fear has us in a chokehold? Join me on Monday and weigh in!
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to remind you to ask for what you want. Be intentional with it, demand the respect you deserve, and sometimes, you have to just be really determined and pushy and not give up til you get the treat you deserve. And that’s OK.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
