Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Salma Hayek because…hubba hubba.
Can she just start some kind of masterclass on how to be this hot? How can I get this hot? Is it purely genetic? Can it be taught? How much time do I need to put in? I HAVE QUESTIONS, DAMNIT! Because, like, what is happening? How is this possible? I am disoriented. I can’t remember my own name.
Also, she’s 57.
*throws papers in air*
I can’t handle it. Kudos to Ms Hayek. That is all.
Things that caught me eye this week
This piece in The Guardian about the wellness industry is worth a read. This quote was a standout for me:
“Perhaps wellness, if we are to embrace its full potential, should dispense with the fantasy that we should always be fit and chipper, or strive to be. Perhaps it is far healthier to agitate against the circumstances making us sick and miserable than it is to latch our hopes to another glossy promise.”
I’ve been reflecting a lot personally lately on how we generally tend to treat the symptom and not the cause and as a thankfully healthy person, I’m trying to create conditions in my life that keep me that way. I think there’ve been a lot of benefits to this rise of ‘wellness’ but it’s definitely all quite overwhelming at the same time.
Food for Thought
Fuck it. Be vulnerable. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Tell your friends you love them. Compliment that lady’s lipstick. Ask your person for a hug for no other reason than you just like being close to them. Smile at that stranger. Crack that joke. Break the silence. Laugh til your face hurts. Listen when someone’s telling you about their bad day. Jump in that puddle. Live, laugh and fucking love, babes, because what’s the alternative? Keeping your every waking emotion bottled up til you choke on them and die? Free yourself.
You should subscribe to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s paid edition of the letter, I’m writing about my feel good list. This time of year, as we approach the holidays, it’s easy to get bogged down in stress and feel the heaviness of obligations. I refuse to end the year feeling burnt out and resentful, so I’m sharing the things that are keeping me on track, helping me feel good and letting positive energy be my driving force.
If you could use a pick-me-up, you’ll wanna upgrade your subscription for this one. Click below to upgrade and join me on Monday.
Sweat With Me!
Last week, I launched my online Spin and Pilates studio, STUDIO BANGS. If you don’t have a bike, use the one at your gym or check out the Pilates classes (and hell, ask Santa for a Spin bike or keep an eye out in those January sales!). I’d love to have you join my online community. There’s a 7 day free trial so you can give it a whirl first.
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to remind you to stretch. Make a little time at the end of each day to do some simple stretching - do it while you watch TV if you need to. You have five minutes, you know you do. You might even get so into it, you extend it to 10 or 15. It’s worth it. Your body with thank you for it. Biggie assures me his daily stretching routine has him feeling like a spritely young pup, though he is the ripe old age of six.
