Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Kerry Washington - and not just ‘cause she’s an absolute smoke show (which she is). Washington has been doing the rounds on the podcasts this week, promoting her upcoming book, Thicker Than Water.
Admittedly, outside of her acting, I didn’t know much about Ms Washington, but she has a pretty fascinating back story that this book is based on. Listening to her talk about it in these interviews has made me want to buy the book for sure. I have great admiration for anyone who can show such vulnerability and generosity in sharing their personal story.
Things that caught my eye this week
To say social media has been a heavy place this week would be an understatement. The most recent attacks in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict have been sickening. The very nature of social media, while it can be helpful in terms of the immediacy of the news, can also be a hindrance when it comes to accuracy.
If you are finding it difficult to keep up with what is happening right now, I found this to be a useful timeline of exactly what happened when Hamas launched their attack last Saturday and what has unfolded in the days since.
And if you aren’t overly familiar with the origins and history of the conflict, this is very much worth a read.
It’s important we educate ourselves on these matters, when lives are in the balance, particularly when it becomes a discourse on social media.
Food for thought
Are the things you are fighting for truly the things you want for yourself or have they been integrated into your psyche from multiple schools of thought; from family to society to peer groups. Take some time to pause and get clarity on that before you continue a push toward something that was never meant to be your destination.
You should subscribe to the paid edition of The Murmuration because…
On Monday’s edition of the newsletter I’m getting super vulnerable. I’ll be honest, I’ve been staring at my cursor blinking at me on the screen here trying to figure out how to type this - basically my mental health has been in the shitter. And with each new day, I am somewhat amazed that I’m still here. In Monday’s letter, I’m talking about my go-to techniques that help me navigate rough mental health seas. It’s never easy to talk about, but if it helps one of you who may be going through something similar, I’ll sing like a canary. Upgrade to the paid edition and share your tips too.
Your Weekly Biggie Smalls (P)update
This week, Biggie would like to remind you to demand the things that make you feel good. Ensure they are a part of your life on the regular. In his case, it’s belly rubs (and he will stay in this pose until he gets his, thankyouverymuch). In your case it may be your coffee made just right, a special pair of socks, a certain song, a particular route that gives you the best view of the sunset. If it makes your life a little better, if it perks you up, demand it. Make sure it features regularly. Because every day can be a special occasion if you so choose.
It’s coming…
A few weeks back, I posted about a GoFundMe to help me raise funds for my online studio. I’m grateful the target was hit, the equipment has been purchased and I wanted to give you an update that Studio Bangs is in the making. I will be bringing you spin and Pilates classes, straight to your home, soon.
I’ve spent the last few weeks getting all the equipment, doing lots of research and setting everything up. I am currently in a bit of a battle with the sound, trying to make sure I get that just right so that this experience can be everything I want it to be for you. That has meant I can’t record any spin classes just yet, but I’m hoping that gets resolved in the next few days. In the meantime, I’ve recorded some stretch and Pilates classes and am honing my skills as a video editor. Until this thing takes off and starts making some revenue, I am a one woman show, so bear with me!
I will keep you posted, but my hope is that I will be launching Studio Bangs within the next couple of weeks.
Until next week; smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.
