Happy Thursday, ya beauties!
Kicking it off this week with Sifan Hassan. If you need a little inspiration today, look no further than this badass. She was the women’s winner of The London Marathon this past Sunday. It was her first ever marathon, she trained through Ramadan and fasting. On race day she was struggling with some pain and stopped several times, trying to stretch her hips out. For the vast majority of the race, she was at the back of the women’s elite pack. The number of things going wrong for her was verging on comical at some points. But…well….you’ve gotta just click this to watch the video of what goes down. Holy shit. If you need a sign today that you shouldn’t give up and your fortunes can turn at any moment, let Sifan be your guiding light.
Things that caught my eye this week
At the end of all my spin classes (and this newsletter), I always say ‘Smile at strangers, spread good vibes, be nice to people.” I’m a big believer in that, so I really liked this piece about the value of these small acts of kindness and how we all basically need to get over ourselves and do them more.
Food for thought
When it comes to critique, analysis or just thoughts on your direction and what you’re trying to do in life, if it’s not coming from someone you know, like, trust and value the opinion of, you are under no obligation to listen to it at all. It certainly shouldn’t be making you question your choices and rethink your path. As Brené Brown famously said: “A lot of cheap seats in the arena are filled with people who never venture onto the floor. They just hurl mean-spirited criticisms and put-downs from a safe distance.” So yeah, basically, unless they’re in the arena doing the work with you, fuck ‘em.
