Hello from inside my existential crisis.
Not long ago I wrote about how I think being a woman over 40 working in fitness may well prove difficult as time marches on. And well, time is a-marching and I think I’ve found myself at a cross-roads, wondering if this is even viable for me anymore.
I’m moving to Toronto this year and a couple of weeks ago, I made a trip there to have a few meetings with some studios to see if I could potentially line up some work. There’s a particular studio I was excited to have a meeting with. It did not go the way I was hoping at all.
I’m sure I'm not the only woman over 40 who has experienced having a meeting with someone 10-15 years their junior, whose job you could do standing on your head, and having them patronise, talk down to you and in my case, seemingly actively discourage you from having any desire to work at that establishment.
I think this may have been my first encounter with ageism.
