I moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia from London, UK in May 2020 - during the first lockdown of the pandemic. Not ideal. I moved here because I was born here and my parents decided they wanted to retire back here. Since I have a really close relationship with them, I didn’t want to be an ocean away as they got older, plus I felt ready for a change, so I highjacked their retirement and moved my life here.
It was an incredibly difficult time to move. All the things you would usually do when you move to a new place (going out, socialising, connecting with people, places and things) were not an option. The first year and a half, I just had to kinda wait it out and I figured Halifax, like the rest of the world at that point, was just sleepy with nothing going on because that was the global state of pandemic affairs.
