I’ve moved countries nine times in my life. My upcoming move to Montreal, which is technically a move of province, but in a country as big as Canada, it kinda feels like moving countries - so I guess I’m counting this as the tenth.
While I’m not in the habit of comparing my life to others, I’m aware that, traditionally, my age mates are generally settled at this stage in their lives. At 42, if we’re going with social norms, we should be married, with a couple of kids, a mortgage, some investments, a healthy savings account and looking to live our lives out that way.
There’s a definite fear that comes with the concept of making big life changes and shifts at this age. I can appreciate not every second of our lives will feel like the most fun fairground ride, but I have to at least have a spark that is flickering away at all times. And if the spark isn’t there and things have started to feel ‘meh’, I know I need to dive right in to some change.
