Let me kick start this by saying: this was definitely not always my forté. Pre-meditation practice and former hot headed me was like a bull in a china shop when it came to having the tough talks. I didn’t have much patience and delicacy required to hold the emotion and nuance of hard conversations.
But thankfully, that has changed over time. Not that I always get it right - sometimes it’s just hard and you stumble through it or you’re not properly prepared and things come out the wrong way.
I don’t know what it is about this time of year, but for many, spending more time in close quarters with our nearest and dearest can often mean that tempers run high, emotions run hot and patience runs thin. Resentments can build and one good way to relieve that pressure valve, is to just have the tough conversation that is hanging in the air, whatever that may be.
I had to have a really tough conversation in my personal life recently. I’d been dreading it but in order for me to move forward positively with this particular person, it had to be had.
