My chosen approach to all things finances over the years has typically been to bury my head in the sand. Seemed like a solid tactic. Avoidance is trés cute. Except it isn’t and sadly part of accepting the fact that you’re an adult means you’ve gotta know what’s going on with your moolah.
I’ve always been intimidated by the money conversation. And the more I’ve thought about it, the more I’ve realised, it was engineered that way for us, as women. Coming up, money was always a conversation for the men. We shouldn’t worry our pretty little heads about it. It wasn’t that long ago, relatively speaking, that women couldn’t even have their own bank accounts. The patriarchy has loved keeping us iced out of those conversations, because then the power stays with them. A lack of knowledge about money keeps us on the back foot and ultimately ensures we remain second class citizens.
