I spent the whole of my twenties as a couch potato, so when I did finally get my ass in gear and embrace the fit life, I went hell for leather. Marathons! Boxing! HIIT! Any crazy workout that would leave you feeling like your lungs had left your body, I would take it on. Being super fit and taking on any kind of challenge became somewhat of an identity.
My Instagram feed has been full of people doing an event called Hyrox recently and ten years ago, I’d have been all over that. Now though? Not so much. Pushing myself to crazy limits just doesn’t have as much appeal anymore. I don’t have anything to prove. I suppose much of that has come with age, but also those kind of workouts aren’t necessarily recommended for perimenopausal women (which isn’t to say we can’t do them, of course - each to their own and all that). I just don’t have the desire.
